Learn the musical alphabet (AβG), how notes repeat, and how they appear on the keyboard.
π΅ In this lesson, you will learn the Musical Alphabet:
A, B, C, D, E, F, G.
These seven notes repeat across the keyboard in a continuous cycle. Understanding this pattern is the foundation for learning scales, chords, and songs.
πΉ You will also discover why the musical alphabet often begins with
C instead of A. In Western music, most scales and theory concepts are based on the
C Major Scale, which has no sharps or flats β making it the easiest and cleanest scale to learn first.
π A full set of notes from one C to the next C is called an
Octave. The word βoctaveβ comes from βocto,β meaning 8, because it contains
8 steps (C, D, E, F, G, A, B, C).
π’ Even though an octave contains 12 sounds (including sharps and flats), the basic system we use in music is called the
7-Note System, because it focuses on the seven natural notes:
AβG.
π― By the end of this lesson, you will understand:
β The musical alphabet
β Why we start with C
β What an octave is
β The difference between 7 notes and 12 musical sounds
β How notes repeat across the keyboard
